"John?" Chiana gapes out at the portal screen in central command. Her eyes slowly begin to widen as D'argo stepped
up behind her. He could smell it on her, a slowly rising fear as they aproach where the flax had been only moments before.
Her breath sucked in, her shoulders throwing back as she grasped the helm and let it out in a scream. "Crichton!"
"Chiana,"
D'argo spoke gently as he came closer, his heart racing as she stood staring at the screen, shaking her head.
Her
lips trembled as she gazed down at the helm in shock.
"Pilot, give me a reading on that ship!" She cried out in a high
pitched tone as her entire body began to trembil.
"I - I'm sorry Chiana," Pilot spoke saddly through the clamshell,
his eyes softening on her. "He's gone."
"NOOO!" She screamed and threw her fists into the helm. "He was there just
a few microts ago. HE WAS THERE!"
"I'm still searching..."
"I'll look in Mokans stealth prowler..."
She
turned to leave, glaring down at the ground as D'argo stepped in her way. She curled her lip, her head twitching to her shoulder
slightly as she let out a slight laugh. "You don't want to do that D'argo."
"You have your child to concider," D'argo
shook his head slightly. "Chiana, wait for Pilot to find his location. Crichton does have a tracer on him he put himself because
of Scorpius."
Chiana moved passed him, pursing her lips tight as he grabbed her arm. She drew in her breath through
her nostrils, her heart pounding wildly in her chest when something gave way inside her. Her knees gave and she dropped to
the ground as she grasped D'argoes wrist.
"Let me go," she breathed in tears. "I - I can't do this again ... not again.
He was there! We saw his ship in the flax!"
"Zhaan," D'argo commed. "I think you should come to command."
Chiana
suddenly wrenched herself free of him with a harsh cry and swung out her leg, drop kicking him. She met his eyes, her own
narrowing sharply with the pain she felt as she drew away from him. She shot up and ran for the docking bays. Suddenly nothing
else was around her, only the will to run as if Salis were on her trail again. She could almost see Violas goading smiles
and hear the sound of the control color willing her down.
She slid into the docking bay, gazing up at Mokans prowler
feeling almost as if she were on the streets again trying to escape the security patrols, infected with thier contagen, trying
to live in thier shadows unaware so she could escape the mind cleansing that would take everything she valued most in her
life. Her freedome.
She leaped by several yards, landing less than perfectly into the c ockpit but it had been so long
since she had had to use her instincts like this ... run like this. Only this time it was something else ... loosing John.
The very thought sent a horrorfied chill down her spine. It was just when she began to feel something was complete in her
life ... something wanted to rip that away from her. Something she'd kill for.
Break her promise?
She closed
the hatch and powered up. For a moment she only gaped at the controls lost in the sensations as she swayed her head. There
was dried blood droplets on one of the read outs, Mokans blood. What did she do?
Chiana blinked slowly as she took
the controls as if through a thick dream and lifted out of the docking bay.
*****************************
Chiana gasped as a prowler shot up from under her and spun past her screen. She winged down, veering away into
a spin of her own until she powered her thrusters for correction. She spotted the prowler and fired, cutting a blast across
thier wing.
"Woe hey!" Jothies voice came through her comes. "I'm the frelling allie!"
"Jothee?" She creased
her brows, trying to pull through the daze she felt as he veered his prowler along side her. "What are you doing?"
"I'm
going after the ship with the flax," his voice came back with amusement. "Come with me."
"I'm looking for John." She
tilted her head to her shoulder as she tried to read her scanners for any traces, picking up on a shallow, thin trail of what
she hoped was his prowlers residues. "Why don't you help me find where his prowler went?"
"Are you kidding?" Jothee
snorted. "I'm going to get the flax from this guy."
"What the frell for?"
"Why the frell not?" Jothee scrunched
his brows as he cut his prowler away from hers. "C'mon, who would know where he might be better than the ship that's getting
away from me! Now or never Chi!"
"I - I," Chiana shook her head as she continued following the thin trail until the
trace vanished. She gaped out at the emptiness of space. "Pilot is there anything yet?"
"No Chiana," Pilots voice reported
back gently. "He has been captured. We'll have to leave this area before Moya becomes endangered as well if Jothee cannot
catch up with that ship."
"Chiana," D'argo spoke into her comms. "We - I will be behind you..."
She creased
her brows, looking to her comms as if they had some how become completely alien, her eyes softening as several tears raced
down her cheeks.
"We'll find him Chiana. I promise."
"D'argo," she tocked her head. "You - you can't keep a
promise like that..."
"Yes." He spoke solemnly. "I can. Now, you don't have the resources you had before. This, Geyo,
he's captured as well and Mokan still hasn't come to her senses. We can assume Crichton is in the hands of Scorpius and if
not he should be soon. Setig is awaiting your orders."
"We - we'll have to re-group," she stated to herself more than
him. "I need stats and - I'll have to go to Mokans ship. Geyo..."
"Understood," D'argo returned. "I suggest bringing
it to where we are going."
"Okay," she nodded as she tried to sniff back her tears. "Ask Setig to go to these co-ordinance.
If Geyo can get away before I can - I can get to him he'll go there."
"He's leaving now."
"Aw frelling hezmana!"
Jothee retorted into the comms. "They got away!"
"Not forever," Chiana nearly cooed as she wiped her face. She chuckled
as she jostled her head. "Pretty frelling clever Scorpius..."
********************************
Geyo blinked,
his head darting bird-like as he mildly looked over his containment cell. He held tightly to his broken left arm, his tail
snaking behind him as he concidered the cells angles and contures. His usual emerald green skin of fine scales was a piney
brown, suiting the mood and pain he was in though he doubted it would suffice enough to fool the guards he wasn't the same
reptilian they had captured ... and forced to betray.
He winced his eyes as he sat on his cot, tilting his sharp head
towards a beam on the cieling. He sighed to himself and turned to sitting with his back against the wall by the door though
it'd probbably be arns before anyone might enter for him to try to slip out.
His keen eyes rested on a wire barely
jutting from the wall next to the door.
"Well," Geyo seemed to smile as he used his sharp nails to try to pull it out
farther. "Now we have something ..."

IC:
Stark walks to Shelan's cell. Phillip is praying. He holds out his hand. Each evil committed brings tears to
his eyes. He prays for forgiveness. He wears the face of solitude. Tears stream down his face.
Stark breathes, not
wanting to disturb him. Phillip senses him and looks up.
"I am sorry to disturb you." Stark says.
Phillip
gets up and walks to the facility. He washes his face and dries with a towel. He emerges and walks to the bars, facing Stark.
"Mokan
was supposed to get information from you. Did she ask you yet?" Stark asks him.
"No. She knocked me out. I woke up
here, in these cuffs with Crichton shooting at me."
Stark suddenly gets a troubled look. "He tried to kill you in
here?"
"Yes." Phillip answers.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Stark says. "You may be glad to hear then." Stark
looks at Phillip. "That Crichton has been captured by the Peacekeepers."
"Returned to them, you mean." Phillip says
with some bitterness. "He is one of them you know."
"No." Stark answers somewhat aimlessly. "I didn't know." He seems
to be thinking on it. "Why do you think he is a Peacekeeper?"
"He earned Lt. Commander grade while serving under Scorpius."
Phillip answers. "He designed a weapon for Scorpius while there." He looks at Stark. "What more proof do I need?"
"I
know him, Captain." Stark answers. "Whatever reasons he had"
"Don't defend him to me. If not for D'Argo, he would
have killed me as I slept."
Stark gasps at his remark. "But he is gone now." Stark looks down.
"I'll die anyway.
Whether D'Argo or the Peacekeepers." Phillip remarks. He begins to walk away from the bars.
"Why would D'Argo kill
you?" Stark says, surprised.
"For the same reason as Crichton." Phillip says with shame. "He loves Chiana."
Stark
grips the bars tightly peering in at Shelan. His mind wonders what can be done for him. After Shelan has answered Mokan's
questions he will soon after be dead.
**************************
Stark swallows. "If I may ask." He begins. "What did you do to Chiana?" He can feel his fingers tremble against
the bars as he asks. A crime worth death from his two trusted friends.
Phillip sighs deeply. His tears well in his
eyes as he looks down deep into his soul at what he used to be, could still be. "I can't even say it." Phillip's voice cracks.
"I can't believe that I was once capable" He sits on the edge of the bed. His face in his hands, he begins to sob.
Stark
opens the cell and goes in cautiously to his side. He places his hand on Phillip's shoulder. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have
asked." He swallows and looks at the broken man. "I heard you ask him for forgiveness. Perhaps, he will. Crichton is gone
now."
"I fear for her." Shelan's sobs quieten as he speaks. "She loves Crichton and he will destroy her." Phillip
wipes away his tears with his palm.
Stark sits and holds him. "Chiana is following him now. Trying to reach him. It
looks as though Scorpius used the Zenetan's Flax net to capture him. It had already dissipated before she left the docking
bay."
"If the Peacekeepers have him, she will try to free him." Phillip looks into Stark's face. "I tried to convince
her." He sighs. "She believes him."
Phillip's heart is breaking as he tells his story. "I made a terrible mistake!"
He cries. "My Peacekeeper heritage! I, I used her with no regard."
Stark looks quizzically at Shelan. "You don't mean,
you mean you had sex with her?" Stark says with realization. "After she married Crichton?"
"Worse than that." Phillip
confesses. "I kidnapped her and drugged her. I held her for three days after her marriage." He swallows. "Please don't, I
can't say anymore. I can't." He sobs. "That I could have done such a thing. So horrible."
Stark just holds him as
he continues to cry. He cannot condone what he has done, yet, Shelan is truly repentant for the act. Stark feels a quiet anger
that restitution enough cannot be made to pay for Shelan's crime. Restitution enough that D'Argo will spare his life.

Geyo blinked, letting out a nervous "trrrr" as frag fire followed his escape in a prowler. He tried to illude
them, grimancing as he tried to nurse his arm and fly at the same time. A shot hit his wing and he went spinning wildly through
space into the planets ozone.
He cut free of the spin and punched the ship into moc, widening his eyes at the mountains
he was headed for.
"Eyieyieyieyie!" He grimanced as he cut microts from hitting along a mountains side and dove into
its canyon as frag fire shot past his c ock-pit just denches from his hatch. A shot sent his prowler tail over head towards
the rainforest below. He kissed his fist as he slammed his eyes shut and ejected.
The seat went spinning wildly out
into the air before balooning. The explosion of the prowler below shot up at him, the heat blowing him away like a particle
in the air. He balled his fists to his sharp teeth at the sides of his face and kept his eyes closed, muttering franticly
to himself in his language as the trees rose up to greet him.
*****************************
Setig gazed over
the ruins with a quiet expression on his Scarren face. He walked through the debris of what had once been a city block of
his peoples making. Now it was cinders and knarled tangles of wire and burned rubble. There was a mangled prowler in the midst
of it. He let out a growl of breath as he sat down on a large chunk and waited. If Geyo was comming, there wasn't much for
him to come to.
He rose slowly as a Nebari aproached.
"Setig isn't it?"
"Yes," he nodded sharply. "What
is your buisness here?"
"Waiting for Geyo, like you," he seemed to smile with a slight nodd of his head. "I am Malek.
Do you think we could have use of a rescue ship? According to Geyo's last frequency I think he ejected from a prowler under
fire."
"And that amuses you?" Setig narrowed his eyes on him.
"Not - exactly," he seemed to smile again as he
raised an eyebrow. "I have no idea where he may have landed."
"We can use my ship," Setig stated as he motioned him
to follow, eyeing the scar that ran across the Nebaries face. "We can find him if he stays with the seat."
****************************
Chiana drew to the helm of Mokans trades ship and began to catch up with reports and intel from her contacts.
Things were falling apart, nothing looked good. She sent out several messages and orders, hoping she was in enough time to
help what she had gathered to the planet re-organize but there just wasn't much left to it and some of her new Scarren allies
were pulling out before they had even started.
She sighed to herself as she lifted off and made her course to rondevue
with Moya. Her brows creased slightly as Mokan returned to her thoughts again. What was she going to tell her? How did she
get wounded? What the frell did she do!
A twinge of fear ran through her as she raised the speed of the ship. A sense
of foreboding came over her, praying like hezmana Mokan hadn't done anything - like she was thinking.
**********************************
Mokan
dreamed of being a whirlling dervish, spinning on one leg as her wide belt of gliphs flew out from her waist, its tassel ends
sailing as the blue diamond at her forehead sparkled. She let out a long tone, entranced as images surrounded her. She saw
Chiana being forced to her knees by a guard, her hands cuffed behind her, refusing to look up. She then saw a young man who
looked Nebari garbbed in black leathers like Chiana's. His sharp black eyes narrowed from behind his folding curtain of jet
black hair as he let a small smile cross his face.
Mokan opened her eyes slowly, the ache of pain waking her as Zhaans
medicines wore off. She was healing very quickly but it was still very painful to try to gain her feet. She had to get up,
now! She moved, groaning as she held on to the bed and tried to coax all of her weight to her feet. She had to get Shelan
out of here before Chiana saw him.
***************************
Geyo seemed to smile as the ship landed and Malek
came out of it carrying a medical case. He held tightly to his arm as he walked the rest of the way to Malek.
"Are
you alright?" Malek asked.
"I'm fine," he winced. "But I'm never doing that again. You should come see this. There
is an abandoned base about a mile off from my crash. It's underground, looks like it had some quake or cave in damage."
"Really,"
Malek raised his brows. "It may be of use to us. We'll have a look. Any idea who made it?"
"I dunno," Geyo shrugged
and hissed at the pain that shot through his arm as Malek tied it into splints. "It looks Nebari."

IC:
Stark enters the maintenance bay and sees Mokan fall. He runs to her. "What are you doing?" He offers his arm.
"Here I'll help you."
"I have to get to Shelan." Mokan tries to stand.
She holds her side in pain. Stark helps
her up. She leans heavily on him.
"He's not going anywhere. He'll still be there when you get better." Stark assures
her.
"No." She leans heavily on Stark. "I have to get tohim." She stumbles as she speaks.
Stark looks at Mokan,
knowing she must question Captain Shelan before D'Argo decides to move against him. "Here." He helps her to sit on the table.
"Geyo Commed us for information from Shelan." He watches her reaction.
"Geyo." She repeats and lies down.
"Just
tell me what you need to know. I will ask him." He tells her.
"No. I have to move him. He can't stay here." She tries
to get up again.
Stark is torn between helping her and helping Shelan. If he Comms Zhaan to the maintenance bay, she
will surely give Mokan another sedative.
********************************
Stark wants desperately to save Captain Shelan from D'Argo's wrath. He looks again at Mokan's wound. To him she
appears better. He takes a great risk.
"I will help you move him Mokan." He holds his hands in front of her. "Here."
He gives his arm to her.
Mokan stands, stumbling, with his help. They walk slowly to the landing bay. Mokan sees her
prowler is gone.
"My prowler!" she growls at him.
"Chiana took it when they captured Crichton." He tells her.
They get into the pod. Stark helps her to sit in the copilot chair and leaves her to get Shelan.
Mokan waits
patiently in the pod. She is tired but knows she will now get Captain Shelan to safety. She hears someone come through and
seal the hatch. She looks up. It is Zhaan.
"What are you doing here Mokan? Your wound must heal before you can do
this!" Zhaan approaches her.
"I have a job to do! Now let me do it." Mokan says angrily. She gets up from the copilot
chair and tries to thrust Zhaan out of the pod. Zhaan easily wins. She holds Mokan's arms from clawing her.
***********************
"Shelan!"
Stark calls to Phillip as he approaches the cell. He peers into the cell and sees him. "Well come on!" he tells him. "This
is your escape!"
Stark opens the cell doors as Phillip quickly comes to the bars where he anxiously waits.
They
walk into the corridor together. Stark leads the way. Suddenly D'Argo knocks Phillip down and kicks him in the ribs.
"You
will die for this Peacekeeper!" D'Argo pulls his Qualta rifle.
"No!" Stark raises his arm to D'Argo. "I let him out!
Me, me! I did it!" stark says nervously holding D'Argo's arm not to fire.
"You are right! You are at fault here!"
D'Argo swings his free arm and knocks stark into the bulkhead. "So stand back!"
"No! D'Argo!" Stark shouts as D'Argo
points the rifle into Shelan's chest.
Phillip looks at the rifle. He swallows, knowing he will be dead in an instant.
He suddenly kicks his leg into D'Argo's knee, making D'Argo lose balance. Phillip scrambles to get away quickly down the passageway.
D'Argo aims his rifle at Phillip's back.
"Stop D'Argo! Stop! No!" Stark screams and runs into D'Argo knocking him
into the bulkhead.
The Qualta fires into the bulkhead, exploding, splintering a piece of it and sending sparks skidding
across the floor.
D'Argo wrestles with Stark. "Stay out of this!"
"You can't kill him. Geyo desperately needs
information from him. He is unarmed! He is Mokan's prisoner!" Stark says in Phillip's defense.
D'Argo growls and gives
a mighty push thrusting Stark off of him and to the floor. D'Argo runs down the passageway to find Phillip. He runs a ways
then stops. He hears foot falls. He runs toward the sound and finds Phillip trying to escape down an access shaft. D'Argo
pulls him away from the shaft and thrusts him to the floor.
"Uh." Phillip groans as he hits the deck.
D'Argo
aims his Qualta rifle again. This time Stark is not there to save him.
"Please." Phillip begs. "I know I have no right
to live. But please don't kill me."
Phillip looks into D'Argo's eyes then to the rifle. He gasps for the last time
awaiting his death.
"What's goin' on here!" Comes a voice from the passageway.
"I must do this Chiana." D'Argo
says determinedly, his Qualta rifle raises with Phillip in his sites. He stands like a statue.
"No!" Chiana says and
walks closer. "The resistance needs to question him about Peacekeeper activities and tech. The resistance needs his Intel
D'Argo." She says. She walks beside D'Argo and looks at him. She then puts out her arm and thrusts the rifle away from line
of site. "So you can't kill him!" she says angrily staring at the Luxon giant. "Get up Phillip. I'm taking you out of here!"
*************************
Zhaan has taken Mokan to the maintenance bay. She checks her wound. "It's broken
open again." She clicks her tongue in disappointment.
Chiana walks into the maintenance bay with her prisoner. D'Argo
walks behind them with his Qualta, guarding Shelan. Stark follows them.
"Mokan!" Chiana crosses to her and embraces
her.
Mokan groans in pain at the embrace.
"I'm sorry." Chiana says meekly.
"Her ribs are broken." Zhaan
tells Chiana.
"Chiana. You must take Shelan to Geyo." Mokan reaches to Chiana. She looks into her troubled eyes. "I
am sorry I brought him here. I never would hurt you on purpose." She says near a whisper.
"Shush, I know. I'll take
care of it." Chiana picks up Mokan's hand and kisses it. She smiles at her.
Zhaan looks at Mokan. "Mokan, if you move
again you could pierce your lung!" Zhaan looks at her disapprovingly. "Now, if you stay put and promise to be good you won't
need another sedative."
"Yes, I'll stay now." She says. "Thank you Chiana." Mokan says into Chiana's eyes, then watches
as she leads Phillip out.
As they walk to the docking bay, D'Argo is ashamed of what he has done. Still, in John's
absence he feels justified. He swallows and knows what he must do. He suddenly stops stark and hands him the Qualta rifle.
"Guard him." He says and walks ahead to Chiana.
"Chiana." He says grabbing her arm.
Stark continues walking
Phillip to the prowler.
"What do you want." She squints at him and tocks her head then looks at D'Argo's arm on her.
D'Argo removes his hand from her arm and stands seriously to speak to her. "Did you hear the transmission?"
"What
transmission. If this is your excuse for killing Phillip you can get frelled!" she says angrily.
"No." D'Argo says
softly, looking at the deck. "John's transmission."
Chiana gasps. "Is he free? Is he coming here? Where is he? Tell
me D'Argo!" She can see from D'Argo's expression that John is not returning. She waits anxiously to hear him speak.
"No,
I mean I don't know if he has escaped. The transmission was cut."
"What did he say? D'Argo what aren't you telling
me?"
"He asked to speak to Mokan then he asked again saying someone wanted to talk to her." He says looking at his
hands. He finally looks to see the expression in her eyes. He wishes he could hold her to touch her again and tell her all
that is in his heart. He doesn't dare anymore. She belongs to another.
"Someone with him?" Chiana begins to cry. "The
peacekeepers are taunting us." She says. Her hand goes to her mouth. She leans toward D'Argo and places her hand on his chest.
She sobs at her loss.
D'Argo swallows and places his arm loosely around her shoulder. He sighs. He looks at her and
tilts his head back, closing his eyes in ecstasy.
******************************
Chiana travels the distance to Mokan's trades ship with Captain Shelan. There is a long awkward silence between
them.
Phillip's mind wavers between wanting to throw himself at her feet to beg her forgiveness and the emptyness
of his broken heart. He fights his tears. The short distance feels vast and endless.
Chiana focuses her attention
on the controls. She thinks of Phillip, what she thought of him when she emerged from his fresher 16 days ago, strangers.
Now he had been intimate with her in the most terrible of ways. She has forgiven him, yet she is still angry the harm he has
done to John. Part of her still wants to drive her dagger into his heart.
Chiana breathes trying to think on business,
what to ask him for the resistance. The information he holds is vital to them. She swallows and sighs at the prospects of
having to live with him in such close quarters.
Chiana glides the prowler into Mokan's ship and walks Phillip the
long corridor to the cells. She secures him in a cell and turns to go to the trade ship's command.
"Thank you Chiana."
Phillip breaks the silence. "Thank you for saving my life." He stands very near the bars, his heart breaking at her silence.
She stops and turns to look at him. She bobs her head to him, not sure what to say. "Sure." She says with a half smile
and continues walking to Mokan's command.
As she reaches Command, she sees the Comms light is flashing with an incoming
message. She hits the Comms. It is Setig.
"A prowler landed near here. It came in on a deep space trajectory. I repeat,
it is not from the base. I am going now to investigate."
"John!" She gasps.
**************************************
Chiana has hope that John will return. She decides to land at the hidden Nabari base, waiting for Setig's recognizance.
She paces nervously. It has only been a few Microts, they stretch into an eternity. She tries to stop her mind from turning.
"If he were alright he would have Commed us. Why didn't he come straight to Moya?" she finds herself gasping for her
breath wishing, hoping for his return. "The prowler could be the Peacekeepers on a stealth mission." She tells herself. suddenly
she gets a headache from all the thinking. She knows what she has to do.
Chiana leaves command and walks to base Command.
The resistance has taken up residence. Finally able to reorganize after the blow they felt from Peacekeeper presence. Still
much has to be done. Tec's scurry about to panels that are half constructed. Wires hang loose. Sparks fly from some of the
ancient abandoned equipment.
She waits here. Amidst the chaos, she finds her mind has stopped worrying. She sighs
with relief that soon she may see John. At least if he Comms it will be monitored from this new local. She will know.
As
she leans against a wall looking at the activity, she suddenly sees Setig enter Command. "Setig!" She quickly goes to him
and places her hand on his arm. "John! What did you find out?" She says anxiously.
"Ah." Setig answers. "I did not
know you had landed here. I was coming to Comm you."
"Setig! What happened? Did you find him?" She is near tears asking.
"I just brought him here." He begins to answer.
"Where?" She says anxiously.
"He crashed his prowler.
He is injured, in the Med bay." He isn't finished speaking to her. She is already gone. "Wait Lady Chiana!"
Chiana
has already run down the long passageway. Her heart and her breath take over her being, propelling her to him. When she sees
him on the gurney, her heart leaps.
As she approaches him, her heart stops. "John!" She gasps. She moves to embrace
him. He is covered in blood, his head, his neck. A Peacekeeper suit of battle armor lies in the corner.
The Med tech
stops her. "Lady Chiana." His injuries are serious. The Med tech runs a scan.
"Setig said he crashed." She says solemnly
looking down at him.
"More than that. He has been tortured. The cut on his neck. And he has been struck with something
here." The Med tech points to John's temple. "Besides, Setig found him tied to his crashed prowler."
She takes John's
hand, kisses it then holds it to her cheek. "Who could have done this?" She begins to cry at his condition.
"I don't
know Lady Chiana. Setig is returning to where he was found. Perhaps he will learn." The Med tech tells her.
Chiana
stands by John while the Med tech treats his wounds. Finally, the Med tech brings her a chair. Many long hours pass. Still
John lies unconscious. She falls asleep in the chair and passes the night there. The Med tech comes to her in the morning
and places his hand on her shoulder waking her.
"Please Lady Chiana." He says caringly. "we must accept that he is
in a coma. You can do nothing for him here. Please go back to your quarters. I will tell you as soon as he wakes."
Chiana
kisses John and holds his hand to her breast. "I'll be back as soon as I eat something John." Her tears trickle down her face.
She no longer notices them, as though they are normal.
She leaves the med bay and walks slowly back to Mokan's ship.
As she reaches it, her heart is heavy. She stops in the passageway before the hatch. She tries not to think of her life without
John. Who would have thought he would be taken from her in a prowler crash then tortured.
"Damn bastard!" She yells
and hits her hand on the wall. "When I find out who did this to him! He's dead!"
She enters Mokan's ship then remembers
the other bastard that tried to destroy John. Chiana walks down the passageway to Captain Shelan's cell. She is suddenly motivated
to question him. It will keep her mind from thinking what may be John's fate. Here is the man who has tried to destroy him.
He will pay!
She suddenly stops when she sees him. She hesitates. Phillip is still unaware of her standing there.
His head is lowered, eyes closed. His hand is held out to something unseen. She wonders what it means.
"What are you
doing?" she asks.
Phillip sighs and looks up at her. She can see his tearstained eyes. She hadn't noticed before the
sadness behind his eyes. He sniffs and wipes his face with his hand.
"I was uh, I was asking for forgiveness for hurting
you and Crichton." His voice cracks. He looks up at her with sad eyes.
She is taken aback. She holds back the gasp
that would show her reaction. She swallows. "Asking forgiveness? From who?"
Phillip stands and moves toward the bars.
He grasps the bars with his cuffed hands and leans his head wearily against them. "When I accused Crichton of tricking you
into your marriage, when I told him Aeryn Sun was still alive, he called on his god that it were still true."
Chiana's
heart feels a dagger of ice pierce it. Her heart beats slowly as though trying to cease. Her breathing stops as she hears
what Phillip is saying. She feels numb from the revelation. She tries to breathe to ask another question, but cannot.
"I
went to Mokan's healer to ask her where Crichton was hiding. A poisonous animal bit me. I died." He shows her the mark on
his hand.
She looks to see the bite. She can barely focus on it.
"When I died, I traveled to a place where
I saw an evil that would imprison me. I experienced something there, I can't describe. Only know that I made the decision
that I wanted to live." Phillip looks at Chiana, her life he wishes to be with his. His desire is to cleanse himself from
the evil that is his life. If he can only be worthy of her. "I called on the name of Crichton's god." He lowers his head.
Chiana looks at him curiously. She looks at the bite again then at him, his eyes. She suddenly sees that his life
has seen nothing but misery. This is a side of him that she never would have thought existed. "You died?" She asks. "The healer
woman, she brought you back?"
"No." Phillip knows that whatever fate is his, he deserves death. He places no blame.
He knows it is his comeuppance. "She left me to die on her floor." He swallows. He cannot hold his tears. They fall silently
as he speaks. "But when I called on Lord Crichton's god, he brought me back!"
Phillip sobs and turns from her, no
longer able to stand the pain he is feeling. To love her so much yet harboring such evil within himself that it would destroy
her. He has lost all hope of ever being worthy of her.
Chiana is dumbstruck by his pain. That this could be happening
to him. It catches her off guard. She feels drawn to him. She opens the bars and enters. She takes the keys and removes his
cuffs then softly puts her hands around his waist. She rests her head on his chest.
Phillip embraces her. He lowers
his head to her shoulder and sobs. All that he ever could be, ever hope to be is contained in this woman. He prays again in
earnest. This time for healing.
